Dionisos. During the excavations of El Villar, a Roman figure was found, next to a feline animal, which dates from the 2nd century AD. Some believe that it could be a representation of Antoninus, a favourite of the Emperor Hadrian. It has become the symbol of Chirivel, and the village?s inhabitants have proudly adopted the figure as their own, so much that it is referred to as ?El Chirivello?. The figure which remains in the village is a replica, given that the artistic value of the original has been moved to the Archaeological Museum of Almeria, where it is on display.
