In Vélez Blanco, during the second week of August, the fiestas of Santo Cristo de la Yedra are celebrated. In the winter, during the month of February, visitors can enjoy the spectacle of ?las máscaras? (the masks), whilst throughout the Christmas period, the streets of the town, and its surrounding hamlets, are full of music and dancing with the Cuadrillas de Ánimas. Also of cultural interest are the Easter processions which take place in the early hours of Good Friday.
